RYA Coastal Skipper (Practical) Course

Level:  Advanced
Location: Whitsundays
Duration: 5 days plus 1 overnight sail
Qualification Awarded: RYA Coastal Skipper (Practical)
Start Day: Every Monday
Assumed Experience:
  • 20 days,  400 miles in tidal waters, 12 night hours, 2 days as skipper, Several passages by day and night
Cost (per person):  AUD$1,200 per person (share cabin)
AUD$2,000 per person to guarantee sole occupancy of cabin. Limited availability on sole cabin use.

Course Aims:

  • Improve navigation skills
    Help you to move on to extended sailing areas
  • Cope with more challenging conditions

Inclusions:

  • Accomodation onboard yacht - accomodation is on a shared cabin basis and at times students can be required to sleep on the drop down table in the saloon. (Numbers dependent). Please speak to your reservations consultant about sleeping arrangements.
  • All meals.
  • Log Book
  • Course notes and tuition

Course Content:

Preparation for Sea, Deckwork, Navigation, Rules of the Road, Yacht Handling under Power and Sail, Passage Making.

We recommend that you read the RYA log book G15 for the full sailing instruction syllabus.

Notes:

  • Requirement to gain RYA/MCA certificate at end of exam:
    30 days, 800 miles, 12 night hours and 2 days as skipper. Restricted (VHF) Radio Operators Licence, First Aid certificate PLUS pass the two day exam.
